Harry Potter Stars Reveal Plans For The Last Two MoviesWe've all spent so long looking forward to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince that it almost seems perverse to already be pestering the cast and filmmakers about the final two films. But at today's press conference, director David Yates and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson offered up some tidbits about where they're headed with the last two films-- .

TINY SPOILERS for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, even though you should really read the damn book already. Yates answered a question about the book's epilogue, in which we see Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny as adults, seeing their own children off on the Hogwarts Express. "We will be delivering that at the end of Part 7, Part 2," Yates promised. "Were looking at various options of how we do it."

While Yates said they probably won't be using "Benjamin Button" technology, producer David Heyman promised that Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe would be playing their older selves, not some stand-in adult actors. "We may use some of the [Benjamin Button] techniques," Heyman said, maybe as a hedge in case David Fincher comes a calling. "We're still in the exploratory stage."

As for what else they're doing with the seventh film, they're obviously keeping mum on plot details, except to say that this film will be very, very different from the ones that have come before. "Seeing the sixth film again, it does strike me we are doing something very very different," Radcliffe said, and Watson followed it up by talking about some of their recent work on the set. "We've just done this amazing scene in the forest, we're being chased by the Snatchers. And I've never done anything like it, nothing even close. I've never really done any serious stunts or any real action, and it's so exciting. It's really dynamic."

Yates compares the first part of the seventh film to a road movie. "We're way away from Hogwarts. It's a bit like three refugees being pursued across the landsape by these terrible Death Eaters." But, as anyone who has read the book knows, the tone will shift a good bit in the second half. "The first one's very verite and documentary and edgy and on the road. The second part, part two, is a big opera, a great big epic, with huge battles. And very oddly moving, because it concludes the whole saga really. They're two very different films."

And how about the one part of the seventh film that everyone's looking forward to-- Ron and Hermione's big kiss? Grint and Watson admitted sheepishly that they filmed the scene a few weeks ago, and did everything they could to get it over with as quickly as possible. "It wasn't something we were really looking forward to," Grint confesses. "It's quite a strange thing to think about doing." And Watson said they both understood the gigantic importance of the scene. " I think Rupert and I felt the pressure of this kiss. This is like 10 years worth of tension and hormones and chemistry in one moment and we had to ace it."

We'll have lots more from the Harry Potter press conference next week, including Daniel Radcliffe shouting at Michael Gambon (a.k.a. Dumbledore) in the other room, his comparison of his own lips to those of a horse, and confessions of who can actually stand to watch the earlier films.

Exclusive Interview: Roberto Orci On Writing Transformers 2 PDF Print E-mail

Exclusive: Transformers 2 Screenwriter Roberto Orci Addresses Fan Complaints About an hour ago I got a chance to talk to Roberto Orci, one half of the screenwriting team that, in one summer alone, brought you both Star Trek and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (for that one he and screenwriting partner Alex Kurtzman also teamed up with Ehren Kruger).

The conversation got mysteriously cut off after about 15 minutes, which meant I didn't get a chance to ask about any Star Trek 2 spoilers or even the hotly debated twins. But I did ask about another contentious character in the film, the co-ed-turned-Decepticon who pretty much defines the tagline "more than meets the eye." Did you think that Kurtzman, Orci and Bay made a hot chick a Transformer for the hell of it, ignoring the long history of the franchise?

Of course not! "They're called Pretenders in the Transformers lore. That actually does come from Transformers lore. I know that some thought it somehow violated the spirit of Transformers," Orci said, sounding just a bit triumphant over the fans who had already been outraged by the character.

Orci actually has some first-hand knowledge of the people eviscerating his new movie online, having boldly stepped into the Ain't It Cool comments section to mix it up with fans, if not exactly defend his film. The way he sees it, it's all part of the job. "It's partly an exercise, partly just mixing it up in a roller derby, that's what the talkback kind of is. Kind of getting into the spirit of the board itself, and not shrinking away, and also not advocating any responsibility to the audience. Just throwing yourself in there and seeing what happens, just be straightforward and react like a real person."

Having gotten his start writing for fan-centric TV shows like Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess, Orci says he and Kurtzman are both very familiar with fan outrage. "From our first job on Hercules: The Legendary Journey 10 years ago, when we killed his sidekick Iolaus. We had funeral wreaths delivered to the office, and fish wrapped in newspapers. I've had 10 years of training for these moments. And you do learn something. The audience is always right no matter what the opinion is, and you just want to find out what they're saying, even if it's disguised with insults."

Later today I'll post the audio of the rest of our conversation, in which we talk about the process of working with Michael Bay, teaming up with a third screenwriter, and which part of the script is defined as a "Michael Bay special."

Interview: Michelle Pfeiffer PDF Print E-mail

Interview: Michelle PfeifferMichelle Pfeiffer isn't worried about her age. Not only is she happy to mention the funny irony of filming Cheri-- a movie about a woman coming to terms with aging-- on her 50th birthday, but she also admits roles as great as the one she plays here wouldn't have come to her when she was 20. As Lea, an aging French courtesan who strikes up an affair with her best friend's young son, Pfeiffer is sexy, melancholy and vibrant through the whole thing; it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role.

That's probably what Stephen Frears figured too, when he teamed back up with Pfeiffer 20 years after they made Dangerous Liaisons. Read below for our roundtable interview with Pfeiffer, in which she opens up about the challenges of playing Lea, her looming empty nest syndrome, and her thoughts on plastic surgery. (Yes, a reporter from People was in the room, but you know you're interested in the answers).

Three Good Reasons
  • 1It's a unique take on the fantasy genre: no old wizards in pointy hats, but loads of talking, fighting, shape-shifting animals.
  • 2Dakota Blue Richards beat out more than 10,000 other girls for the role of Lyra. Clearly, the kid's got something.
  • 3Casino Royale stars Daniel Craig and Eva Green reunite, but this time he's an aristocratic explorer and she's a witch.

Bet You Didn't Know

In addition to Nicole Kidman, the cast includes another Oscar winner and two more nominees, but they'll just be heard and not seen. Kathy Bates provides the voice for Hester, the hare; Kristin Scott Thomas voices Stelmaria, the snow leopard, and Ian McKellen does the voice of Iorek Byrnison, the polar bear.
